Massey Lakefront Cane Corso

Good Morning to everyone,

I am a Breeder, fairly new to this, well to cane corsos.  I have bred Dobermans and Presa Canario but nothing like this.

I recently just had my first litter of Corso puppies and wow are they loud and huge.  My baby Young's Security Massey (check with ICCF) had 14 pups.  12 lived.  They are all healthy and received their 6 week vaccaine shots over the weekend.  I must say I am proud!

The Sire was from a friend of mine Korrey Roddy.  He owns Fortissma's One in a Million, Vlad's litter mate.  I am afraid though that all won't be sold.  And I want what is best for these babies.  So if there is any advice that some one out there can give me....I would appreciate it.    THANKS.

Can you tell us what you liked about Young's CC that led you to buy from them? Feel free to email me privately..

The only advice I have is advertise before you breed so you can find the homes that you want your puppies to live in.  Don't breed and expect to find the best homes.  Plan first and than breed.  Have you health tested your female and had her hips OFA or Pennhip tested?  Did your friend have his male health tested and his hips tested?  This also needs to be a must before breeding.

The Corso is an awesome breed, good luck in finding your precious puppies great loving homes.

I have 2 pieces of advise:
1. Make sure you have plenty of free time in the near future and a lot of space on your property to raise these youngsters.
2. Do not sell to people you would not sell to if you had the choice between 100 buyers. Your lack of buyers must not be the reason for these pups ending up in the wrong hands.

I do have a 3rd advise. If you ever want to breed another litter, try to have more buyers before you breed ;)

Good luck with your pups. I hope they will find good homes!

It is not that I am having such a hard time marketing or selling the puppies.  I mean everyone has the money, but there are just a few people that I had to turn down...point blank.  I did not want their money.  There was a guy who came by this weekend.  He told me how interested he was with the breed.  Then he opened his mouth too much.  He had a Rottie, the dog was stolen from out of the back yard...I asked.. how did the dog get taken from the yard?

Some guys from another block, baited the dog....(get this), took the chain from around it's neck and took the dog from the back yard.

Now this just excuse my smiley >:(

Why are you leaving a dog chained up in a yard? We don't keep dogs in the house.

Can I please take a look at your yard?  Well yeah.....

What kind of gate do you have in place?  A regular fence.

Don't you know I was peeved, I quickly said no go home.  I got plenty of buyers that is not the problem.  It is the Idiots that want to buy them that I will NOT relingish too.  Hell I make good money at my job, so money isn't the issue.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Hopefully this will place of education, support and most of all honesty.  Stephanie and Nancy are most correct when advising you, what you should have carefully considered before breeding.  To many of these dogs end up on the street or in homes where the conditions aren't much better. :'(

For us, the puppies we produce will be in our lives (and our responsibility) until the day they pass.  This is a relationship that is established well before the birth of these puppies.  We take breeding very seriously and we do everything possible to make sure we support the people who have been blessed with our puppies.... hopefully, you do the same.

Breeding is for the people who have taken the time to become well vested (emotionally, educationally and financially).
Just a note:  finacially, I mean.... getting involved with established Corso people, going to shows... learning about the breed, attend training with people who have Corsos, establish a website.... let people get to know you, get a solid contract that protects you and the dogs for life.  I have no doubt you make good money, but there are so many other things to consider when breeding.  Not all of us do these things, even when we try...... sometimes things don't work out, but if you are involved and people get to know you and your dogs..... they will be more willing to help you (and for us, that is a great perk).

[img]Thanks Scott for the advice,  Furthermore I take owning any animal and the well being of it seriously.  If I can have it my way I wouldn't sell not one pup.  City of Chicago Ordinances!!!

Also I extend a initiation to you Oct. 7 ARBA, St. Charles, IL.  I am a advent show participant.  On a regular basis.  Two of the puppies will be entering this year.  After that off to Indy.

Like I said I have done this with Doberman's and Presa's.  The problem that I am running into is idiots as well.  By Cane Corso's not being a popular dog by name a lot of regular people not enthusiasts like our selves are not familiar with the breed.  Hell I had more success with my Presa!!!

I do not want to be rude. But other breeders could have told you this before you bred your litter. I do think you did ask around before starting this adventure. Corso buyers are enthusiasts, not just regular people ::)

I wish you would find a good new owners for the pupps. We all know that corso is not a golden retriever or GSD to find new owners easily. And  I think it`s first rule when you breed not to breed only to sell a dog and to have a litter, but to find good owners that would know something about the breed and your pupp will have a great time to be a family member. I think that here in my country for example would be the same problem with Presas because breed is not well known and maybe also with dobermans, because people buy them that everybody would be scared of them. So this is global problem with "unknown" breeds. I would say with breeds that aren`t TV stars.
The dog is a friend and its great values are not in the body, but in the spirit!
