Saying Hey
« on: July 20, 2008, 11:51:22 PM »
Hey Folks

I'm pokin around looking at several of the mastiff breeds, trying to decide which one is for me.  Canes, Neos, Bordeaux, English, all are on the list.  Ahh, so many dogs, so little time.  I have experience with Saint Bernards and Bullmastiffs.  I am also active in my local rescue community and have home fostered lots of dogs, mostly mixed breeds, everything from cattle dogs to bullmastiffs.  In the end I probably will end up with a rescue mastiff that needs a home when I am ready.

Rich,
Welcome to the Forum! I'm also in California (Central). I know it is kind of a cliche, but once you go Corso you won't go back! I have had my first Corso for about a month and half and he is the best dog I have ever had! That includes my two English Bulldogs, Rotties, and Dobermans(Sorry Kathy W.)

Great you are considering a Rescue, if you are interested, look at the Cane Corso Association of America. CCAA.org You will find a link for rescues!
I wish you luck and if you want to drop me a line I might be able to assist you further if you are serious about a Corso!

Hello Rich, Welcome to the Forum here ;D
Dogs love their friends and bite their enemies, quite unlike people, who are incapable of pure love and always have to mix love and hate !

Thanks for the welcome folks.  I am in the Bay Area as well, tmlto, Fremont.  The rescue I work with is Furry Friends here in Fremont in case any of you know them.  I have a pair of 9 year olds, a cattle dog/pit and a boxer.  I have always wanted a mastiff, and grew up with a Saint.  I have also fostered a few Bulls including my current foster.  I was at a local community dog show last weekend (The Fremont Niles Park Dog show), one of those great non-AKC shows where they give prizes for prettiest pooch, weirdest mixed breed, etc.  I met two sets of folks with canes.  They were great looking, very well behaved dogs.  I watched one get head tackled by a 4 year old that was a stranger to the dog.  The dog just shrugged it off.  That impressed me.
My plan is to get a mastiff of some kind after my boxer boy goes onward.   Three dogs total is my self-imposed limit, and in order to be able to foster rescues I need to wait.  So I am gathering info.  With any luck my boxer still has a couple of years in him.  They only average 10 years but so far he is healthy and cancer free.
