Hello from a new Cane Corso family
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:51:05 PM »
Hi!  We are the new family of a cane corso pup.  We have a springer/retriever mix and love him to bits but he is not very smart lol.  Really he is an awesome family dog but if someone were to break in to our home he would show them where to find the valuables.  We wanted to add a dog that would be both a good family pet but also a good defender while not being aggressive.  This dog also had to be good with other animals as I have parrots.  I did a lot of research, starting with German Shepherds and ending with the cane corso.  We then went on a search for one in need of a good home, not an easy task seeing as they are so uncommon in the area where I live.  However we did find a 6 month old pup.  She was a bit much for her owners to handle so she had been rehomed, but again was a bit much to handle so was up for adoption again.  After meeting with her we took the plunge and brought her home.

She is everything we wanted, smart, docile, alert and gentle.  However she does have some anxieties and lacks socialization.  Her first home was on a farm and her second a small apartment.  However until we took her home she had never had a leash or collar on.  She is very well behaved though and has an excellent response.  She views us as alpha and doesn't challenge that (much).    Overall we are in love with the breed now and so happy we dug deeper than german shepherds.  I knew nothing about the cane corso, but now I think it is a dog tailor made for our family....maybe there will be another in the future lol!

I look forward to learning from everyone here!  Thanks!
