Hello from NC
« on: August 26, 2007, 02:04:36 PM »
:)Hello all! I live in Gibsonville,NC and am new to owning(he owns me!) a cane corso, but not to the breed I have reseached for about a year before I got my Tuff. He is out of Marcus Della Porta Dipinta and he is already spoiled rotten!!!!!Any advice on housebreaking will be greatly appreciated! He shares his home with a 11 month old boxer and gives her a run for her money!!!!

Welcome! You must have a big house because my Corso never once did any business in the house. I guess it was because my house is so small he looked at it as a dog does a crate. I'm in Wilmington, never heard of Gibsonville. Crate training is what worked for me and my other dogs housebreaking.

Hello and welcome!
Nice looking boy you have....
My advice on housetraining....
After they nap, eat, get a drink of water, play, basically anything you take them out, even at night time I took my Girl out 2 times a night when she was young...I had her sleep in my room, so eventually she woke me up to take her out. Sometimes they wake me up when needing to go out at night time....other nights they don't need out ..so they let me know what they need and when they need it    :P Yep..they got me trained  ::)
Good luck!

Hi, this is a great site I think you'll love it. As far as house training goes, certainly use the crate when your not home, but when you are home take him out every couple of hours whether he needs to go or not. Take him to the area you want him to use and give him a command phrase such as "use the bathroom" ect... stay there for a little while then praise him ALOT then bring him back inside and keep repeating. If and when he makes a mistake in the house just take him back to the same area and tell him your command phrase again ect... Stay positive and he will catch on soon!!! ;)

Yeah like others have said, keep him in the crate whenever you can't have eyes on him. Some strong headed cases need to even be leashed when they are inside but I have never heard of a Corso like this. Don't take him out of the crate unless you are ready to go straight outside and do it often. It will do you good to completely control his world like that for a while anyway so that he know you are the boss. For your next Corso...it will be much harder to house-break any dog once they have gotten used to doing their business in your house.

He is grandfather for one of my dogs.  So are you going to show your puppy or work him?
