Interesting Neo looking for someone to protect.
« on: January 17, 2008, 08:56:06 PM »
There's an animal shelter close to my house that I visit regularly. I like to spend time with the lonely dogs. Recently I discovered this guy. They are calling him a 3 year old Neo. Clearly he is part Neo, but his skin is tighter than many Neos ...and of course for me, that makes him more special!  ;D Perhaps he is a neo/corso cross. Also, I don't think he is 3. I bet he is closer to 18 months. He wiggles and jumps like a pup.

The shelter people are saying that he is aggressive, but honestly he is sweet, just very protective and confident. He was trying to lean on me the moment I approached him. I love his character. He wants to play, he is super high drive and once he trusts you, he is very affectionate. But he will require an owner who is willing to put in the time. He is probably 15 - 20 lbs under weight. You can see his spine, but he moves great, and is VERY strong, and has the potential for a lean muscular build. I just now notified the CCAA rescue, but if anyone knows of a good home -perhaps someone who can't afford a corso, but wants a confident, protective molosser, please contact me.

Also, I think he is an interesting specimen because his tighter skin allows us to appreciate some of the ancient connection between the corso and the neo. What do you guys think of this guy??

A couple more. You can see that he is severely under weight. You can still see his spine a bit. BUT, check out his muscular rear. If he just got some quality food and attention, I think his body could become really nice. Check out his high tail set. His coat is rich and very soft. No mange. No skin irritations. He is an unusually good dog for a shelter.

By the way, you can have him for under $30 USD.

Kelly, how do you think I feel?? It's torture. I think about him all the time. I've just already got an intact male.
I was just thinking that perhaps some of us have friends who lust after our Corsos, but can't spend that amount of money themselves. For a person who appreciates the corso, but who can't spend the $$$, this dog would be like winning the lottery!

It's funny, because I like his head type (in the first pic) better than some of the corsos I see. In that first pic, look at his stop and the deep furrow between his eyes. In the profile shot he is barking at people in another area. After 10 minutes of play with me and the shelter clerk, he was already protecting us. This dog is NOT shy. Pretty cool.

Are you absolutely sure the two of them can't live together in peace and harmony?  Django is still a pup....and they are two boys, easier to match than two girls.

Sorry I'll stop now.

Yes he's beautiful.

I wish I lived in the states and not the uk as i would have him no problem. He looks very similar to our corso Enzo. I am sure he is more corso than neo. He looks more like the old time neos before they were bred with too much wrinkle and weight

Listen, I can't take the thought of this guy living his final days in this shelter. If someone from another country wants him, let me know. I'll get him, take him to the airport, and put him on a plane for you. I might even be persuaded to help with part of the cost of the flight. If you want him, then let's start the conversation there. The rest can be worked out.

He certainly looks like a Neo Cross and has great expression. :)

Mobius,
I live in Northern Cali and unfortunately cant take the big guy either  :-\ but count me in for helping with the cost of ANY flight if anyone is able to take him, within or outside U.S. You can email me at vunnam@valleywater.org if you need to get ahold of me.

Good Luck Precious Boy!

Thanks vasuandchris. That's great.

Looking at this guy's pic, I can't help think what a shame it is that the Neo has been so lessened by breeding fads. The historic, tighter skinned, more functional Neo is so much more compelling than what we have today ...to me. I've looked at a few of the old black and white pics of Neos from the '40s & '50s. They were cool dogs. Having seen those pics, you can imagine how surprising it was to see this guy in a kennel filled with 100 dogs.

Besides the fact that this guy is so underweight, he's a got a cool body, no? I think he's still a pup. He has no calluses on his elbows. He springs around like a pup. His paws are big...

It's a bit of a saga at this point. There is a great home that is interested (thanks to Ron H. and this forum!). The dog's name is kong, and I 've spent more time with him. We were just in the process of lining up a basic hip Xray to figure out a limp that I noticed, when some rescue organization took him. Normally this would be great in that it gets the dog out of the shelter, but in this case it is frustrating because we were so close, and now I have to begin again with a new bureaucracy. Hopefully they have not taken him out of state and we can get this settled soon.

Anyway, he is good dog, and now I'm just waiting for the shelter to give me the contact info for this Rescue organization.
