You are not the first to ask this. Both the forum and pedigree database are a
free service for everybody.
I also get a lot of questions about how much they cost me personally to have them on-line.
The database service from animalpedigree.com costs €14,95 a month (€179,40 a year). When it went on-line May 2006, I paid for 2 years in advance.
The time spend to enter the info in the database is countless. But, it is a hobby! It has always been my hobby. I had a big part of this database on my computer before I found a good way to publish it on-line. After it went on-line, I received many many more pedigrees from breeders all over the world to be entered. To enter 1 dog in the database, means also to enter the parents and further ancestors. With the ENCI database, we can even go much further in generations and since the more info is known, the more help the database is. Instead of just entering the ancestors, if known, I also love to enter all their littermates and all pups they had. So when I receive 1 pedigree, I often enter over 100 related dogs to provide more info
But it's a hobby of mine. I like digging into pedigrees.
Since I am receiving a LOT of requests for dogs to be entered, I have some helpers. I can not keep up with all the requests myself. Veleda (Asia on this forum) helps me with those. What I receive by e-mail or the forms on my website will be entered by her or me. Together we are now finally catching up.
But the Swedish also have their database on-line. That was something I did keep up with in the past. But that has become impossible for me now. So Swedish Jenny is entering the new Swedish registries in the database
Also Estonia and Finland have their Cane Corsos and Evelina is keeping those up to date in the database
Since the Cane Corso went AKC in the US, and in FCI countries we can use AKC registered dogs, this is a GIANT step for the breed in the US. 1 World, 1 breed
Shauna is working on the US entries. I will explain a bit more about this decision in another topic, since I got many questions about this.
All of us do this for a hobby. When we have some spare time, we enter dogs. When we don't have the time, we collect information to enter later.
After the first questions I got if it was possible to donate something, I have spoken with the people from animalpedigree.com about a donation button on the welcome page, so people could send donations directly to them to cover the server costs and to keep the database on-line. Since we are not the only breed using it, it would mean they would have to start an adminstration for the donations to register where the donations came from and for what client it was donated. They prefer to spend their time on maintaining the databases. I can't agrue with that.
As for the forum, for me personally that is even cheaper. I only spend about €10 a year for the domainname. The forum runs on a private server owned by Robbrs. He is a friend of my brother Rob (funny that they both have the same name
). I started on my brother's server, but when some hackers ruined things there, Robbrs was so kind to take over. He is the forum wizzkid. Now I think we all noticed that this server is going slower than before. The huge amount of uploaded pics to this forum, instead of using photobucket.com or simular upload sites, is for a part causing this. To make everything faster and better again, both Rob (my brother) and Robbrs are building new webservers as we speak (type
). Now those things indeed cost money. If we think we have an expensive hobby with our dogs, believe me, the 2 Rob's are even crazier. But because they are so crazy, we have this forum
With or without donations, the forum and the pedigree database will stay on-line
Since I have gotten many e-mails from people wanting to make donations since the forum and database are on-line, it seems that some people really want to donate
I have asked Robbrs if he has a PayPal account, so donations for new faster webservers and the maintanance can be donated directly to him
To send a donation to the 2 Rob's for the webservers and maintanance of this forum, click this button
In May I will pay for another year (or 2) to keep the pedigreedatabase on-line. Donations are of course welcome
