P.S.  Just curious, are those bars on the side so the mother doesn't smush a pup on the side??  I have no experience with whelping boxes

the idea of those bars is that the pupp won't be smashed by mom
when mom leans against them if there is a puy behind her the space under the bars gives the puppy room enough not to be smashed
