Well, good thing you are responsible and have papers ::) ::) ::)
Hey, I have a female rabbit, she's 1, and likes carrots, do you have a rabbit you would like to breed her to?  I'm not worried about any information on the male at all, I just want baby bunnies, please email me.  If you don't have a rabbit, how about a gerbil, papers not neccessary.

Has your female been health tested, hip tested etc...? What are you looking for in a male ? What attributes does he have to have to compliment your female ? To what standard are you breeding to ? Why are you breeding ? Has your female been temperament tested ? Is she involved in conformation, pp or any other sport ? What lines does your female come from and what lines will compliment her ? Based on your post I would strongly recommend that you not breed her. this community takes this breed very serious and to post something like this raises a BIG RED FLAG !!!! And papers are pretty much worth a hill of beans in this case !!!!

Here is one thought to consider... a stud fee is typically the value of a pick pup, whether it be in cash or a pup.  Add that to the expenses of raising the litter, and it might be more than you bargained for.  If you think it was expensive to buy your girl... wait until you pay for progesterone tests, a C-section and food, supplies, vaccines, microchips, dewclaw removal and tail docking for 8-12 puppies.  Just a thought.

In all seriousness, give some serious thought to producing puppies just because you have an adult female.  This breed is far from established and we don't need any mediocre puppies.

If you couldn't tell by now, forums for people who LOVE THIS BREED and WANT THE BEST FOR THIS BREED are not just some place to come and whore off your dog.

If you are here for other reasons, welcome. If not, I'm sure Nancy can show you the door...

(I just saw you posted this in Breeder Introductions first... ARE you a "breeder" or do you just want puppies to have puppies?)

Not sure why, but this happened to really stick with me last night.  Of course we love the breed and we want to do what we think is best, so we are very defensive of this type of uneducated inquiry for breeding.  Now that we have bombarded this girl with attacks, she will probably go elsewhere and find somebody with a similar level of knowledge of the breed that happens to have a male with papers.  Most of us know what the result of that union will be.  SO, the task is this... how do we educate folks like this, in a manner that is welcoming enough that they don't resort to desperate measures?  I have a feeling that simply telling her not to breed this female is going to work as well as telling your teenage children to embrace abstinance.  I am hoping that nobody offers up a male, frankly... but we do need to offer up some education.

Ron indeed, you have to kind sell your soul to the devil and embrace people like this, I have to ALL the time and still come across as an elitist biatch....  Education is the key, but sometimes its hard and the ignorance gets under your skin, but as you have realised they will do what they want to do, all you can do is guide them, alienate them and you loose what control you may be able to impose over the situation.

Ron,
I agree with your idea of education for this person but.... frankly, I believe that would probably not help in this case.  I have a feeling this person has counted $ instead of sheep in their dreams, and they have decided already, but, are not super motivated, maybe lazy, to go find a male, so they post a message, hoping the male comes to them.  I can hear dueling banjos in the background.

As we all know, intent can get lost when communicating through the internet.  That is why etiquette is so important in many instances, and lack thereof is to.

The lack of knowledge is obvious, demonstrated by the numerous mentions of papers.  Nothing good can come of this, and in that area, there is no lack of dogs!

Hopefully this person will come back and explain or clarify her intent.
If this was simply a lack of etiquette, and a misunderstanding, please explain so.  I believe she will be welcomed by the members, and an exchange of information can be had, and education can begin.

Education is/may be the single most important thing for the breed, certainly here in the US, anyways.
Education of owners, of breeders, of the public, of the judges to know what a correct CC is supposed to look like.  Education is needed in different aspects everywhere!  I get educated everyday, I can not thank Nancy enough for this forum.  What JoJo did, the presentation and breed seminar was awesome, she is a true educator.

What it really comes down to is, if the person wants to become educated... or...do they just want to make puppies b/c they have a intact female with "papers", and the person, who sold them the dog said it would be a great way to make their money back.    A silly post will illicit silly responses.

I hope, Theresa, comes back, and wants to learn, become more educated, gain insight, see's and recognizes the forum members' passion and protectiveness of the breed, and maybe, is able to share some insight with the members as well.

I believe the education is here and available should she want it, I hope she takes advantage of the opportunity!

Otherwise, the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

Ron, I agree with you.   I have emailed her and suggested she find a kennel (or several) that she would like to emulate and ask for help in the form of mentoring.

Unfortunately, I have found from experience that helping others usually gets you kicked in the teeth and worse.   Most people will sink to the level they are on and rarely rise above.  They don't want to hear the truth, they want to hear that your opinions and values mirror their own.   It's much more costly, difficult and time consuming to do the right thing.

Hopefully she will take my advice and find an experienced breeder who hasn't been burned to a crisp and will accept their help.

I think that this is a very real request.  I am not encouraging her to breed this female... quite the contrary.  But, whether it is her or someone else that is of a like mind, how do we, as a group, embrace these folks enough to keep our rescue population down?  Like I said in a previous post... I think that simply instructing her not to breed this bitch will be futile.  How do we do something positive now, to lead this in the right direction?  Obviously, there is a wealth of knowledge on this board, ripe for the picking.  I have requested that she post further info about her girl, along with some photos here so that we can see what we are dealing with.  Hopefully, we can all get educated.

I have to say Im disappointed in the original answers this girl received.  I used to be one of those who didn't believe in getting top bred dogs because I figured all breeders were in it for the money.  but it is thru this forum and others that I have learned - so much!  when I go back and read my original posts im almost embarrassed at how little I knew.  but if i had gotten a reaction like this girl got here, I wouldn't have learned anymore.
Even though some may come into this naive, they aren't all out just to make a buck.  Please remember this next time someone makes a post like this.  No point in alienating them before you even give them a chance.
