Hello from Ohio!
« on: November 10, 2009, 01:46:24 PM »
Hello All! My name is Marie and I am a brand new Corso owner. We just got our puppy 6 days ago. He chose me, and It was love at first sight. He is solid black with a tiny white speck on his chest that is slowly fading. His name is Leonidas, and we call him Leo.

I am married and we have 4 children ages 11 months, 4, 7 and 9. This guy has been gentle and smart from day one. He really seems to understand so much.

I did tons of research on the breed before I went with them, but I am so happy I made the choice I made. He was in the end of his fear stage when I brought him home, which actually worked out well for the introductions. 3 days later he grew out of his collar, and became testy!! He was testing the pack order for sure. But I havnt let him win, and he is picking up that I am the boss very quickly.

I have been having nothing but sucess with potty training. He is doing excellent!! He is sitting on command and he comes when called.

I have had one problem and one problem only. He gets fed twice a day, and he seems like he wants wAAAAYyyyy more. He will go outside and eat dirt and moss and acorns! We have a zillion oak trees and there is really no way to avoid the acorns. He kept telling me he had to potty, and he just wanted to go eat dirt and nuts!! So I brought him in and gave him food and he ate every last bite! Now that totally ruined our sleeping all night, he was up multiple times having to poop and pee. But his belly was full!

So anywho, I am excited to make fellow corso friends and get tips and tricks on our new baby!

He is 13 weeks and he was 27lbs at the vet on thursday. He seems to have gained quite a bit. I am going to attempt to weigh him later and maybe get an idea of roughly what he is at.

He eats around 2 cups if Ekanuba (spelling) large breed puppy. Morning and afternoon. He is also getting treats for training. But not too many. He likes little bites. So I can make on small treat last for 4 bites!

He is doing excellent with the baby. I don't leave them together unattended and he loves to be next to him when we play on the floor. He is more playful with my 4 year old daughter than he is with the other boys. But she is learning how to play with him and not let him get to rambunctious.

I honestly cannot believe how well he is working with our family. He really is amazing.

He was dewormed at 10 weeks. I am taking some poop to the vet today for testing. Sorry forgot to add it in the last post.

Hello Marie, welcome to the side, Leo is a nice boy, sorry if I ask why you don't go to raw ? ;)
Dogs love their friends and bite their enemies, quite unlike people, who are incapable of pure love and always have to mix love and hate !

I dont know how to even begin to do raw...Like raw meats?

I wouldnt have even thought to try it. I know the breeder I got him from feeds his dogs chicken, and fresh stuff.

I think with having 4 kids and a house to take care of, dry food is the easiest healthy way to know he is getting what he needs. If raw is easier then I suppose I may consider it.
